To help defray the cost for professional development by individuals who cannot attend financial aid conferences and training seminars because of budgetary constraints. The scholarship was established to recognize Mr. Mack C. Adams, who served the financial aid profession for 39 years. Mr. Adams began his career in student financial assistance at Southern Methodist University, serving from 1956 -1971 as the Director of Special Services, which included responsibility as Coordinator of Student Financial Aid. Mr. Adams served as Assistant Commissioner for Student Services for the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board from 1971 until his retirement in July of 1995. In this office, he held responsibility for all of the State’s student financial aid and related programs, which numbered about thirty-eight.
The Scholarship Committee will consider budgetary constraints, individual desire for professional growth, job responsibilities in relation to program agenda and benefit to the office/institution. Please be sure to address these items in your written statement. All applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Applicant cannot have previously attended the New Aid Officer Workshop or the ABC Workshop.
- Applicant has worked in financial aid less than two years, or the applicant’s responsibilities have recently changed adding new responsibilities requiring additional training.
- Applicant’s institution is a current paid member of TASFAA.
Scholarship recipients will receive $150 to be applied toward workshop registration fees.
